Camping de Trevélez- Siete Lagunas- Mulhacén

ITINERARY: Camping Trevélez - Siete Lagunas- Mulhacén
Altitude: Camping Trevélez : 1560 metros
Siete Lagunas (7 Lagoons) : 3100 metros
Mulhacén : 3482 metros

We'll meet at the campsite restaurant at 7.30 am . Coffees on the house.

We will start walking from the Campsite to the central town area of Trevélez where we will see the typical narrow streets.

We will follow the path to Culo Perro (Dog's bottom) crossing a canal built by the moors when the Catholic King Fernando was ruling.

In the ascent we will find all different sorts of trees and vegetation, typical of Sierra Nevada's region, and will vary along the way. We will also observe all the different types of cattle , sheep and goats. From here we will start enjoying the scenery, with views offered by the Sierra Nevada Park.

Photo amateurs will enjoy using their cameras all along the itinerary.

While continuing the ascension we will find another irrigation canal, built like the previous one by the Moors. We will then arrive at the Campiñuela region where we will devise Mulhacén's peak and Alcazaba's peak, Chorreras Negras and Siete Lagunas, which are found inside the Natural park of Sierra Nevada, and also the typical farms which until not so long ago where still occupied in summer time by their owners.

Once we'll get to Culo Perro (Dog's bottom) we will find a water dump built to measure the water volume of the river. This is the last step before the Siete Lagunas(Seven lagoons) , a beautiful and picturesque place, autochthonous area of Sierra Nevada. It is possible here to see the Hispanic goat and some birds.

We will then have a rest at Laguna Hondera. (Lagoon named Hondera)

At this stage if there is some members of the group that decide not to follow to Mulhacén, they can stay and visit some natural refuges and enjoy the water fall which is the birth of the river Cullo Perro (dog's bottom) while they are waiting for the rest of the group which will reach Mulhacén's peak.

They will also be able to observe the flora, like the Zahareña, La piel de León, y la Manzanilla of Sierra Nevada(they have actually been protected due to danger of extinction) and have great medical properties.

The rest of the group will leave the beautiful scenery of Siete Lagunas to Mulahcén's peak, the highest peak of the Peninsula in the heart of Sierra Nevada, where we will see the most amazing views of the surrounding area and the chain of mountains of Sierra Nevada. (twelve of them are over 3000 meters in altitude) and there it feels great to be on top of the Peninsula.

The story says, Muley Hassan the King was buried there and built his pantheon thinking nobody would ever find him so high.

After taking in the breathtaking scenery of all of Sierra Nevada and Granada as long as the sky is clear , we will start descending on the same route, picking up the rest of the group to go back to Trevélez and the Campsite.
